Many affiliate marketers do not do the appropriate research before launching a new campaign. This can lead to some painfull failures! Some of my top tips for niche researching are:

  • Use Amazon, eBay and ClickBank “best sellers” lists to reseach products and niches.
  • Look at products with more than 20 reviews (amazon), 100 feedback (eBay) or 30 gravity (ClickBank). These sorts of number mean its a sucessfull product!
  • Read through niche blogs and forums. If your seeing certain producs, brands then take note. Also look for common problems and solutions that can be turned into free reports or ebooks.

Keyword Research Tips for Affiliates

The cornerstone of any affiliate marketing campaign! Ignore keyword research at your peril… Any time spent finding good keywords can easily pay you back in hard cash very quickly.

  • Get the right tools! I can reccomend Market Samuai, Traffic Travis and the Google Keyword Tool as essentials in your keyword research toolbox.
  • Never trust “broad match” results if you are researching for SEO! If you are looking for keywords for articles or for an SEO site then breaod match can be very misleading. Always look at “phrase match” or [exact match] to get a better idea.
  • Only the top 10 results count. You could find a great keyword with 1000′s of searches and very few results in the search engines, sounds a goldmine right? Not if the top 10 results are heavily optimised. Always look at the quality of the top 10 websites.

Copywriting Tips

Copywriting is a black art as far as many affiliate marketers are concerned but it’s really not that difficult. Yes, you can spend a lifetime studying and improving your copywriting skills but the basics can be learned in minutes. My top 3 copywriting tips!

  • So… What will it do for me? People don’t care about features. They do care about benefits. So sell benefits to people! For example a feature would be “triple hydraulic suspension allows dynamic adjustment of your car” but a benefit would be “Our dynamic suspension gives a glass smooth ride around town combined with sports performance on the open road”
  • Call to action. Affiliate marketing is direct response, you need to make it easy, quick and enticing to get your customer to take action. Don’t be afraid to be brash and bold. “Over 50% of your customers think your website sucks! Download our dancing monkey image and get happier visitors within 48 hours”
  • Keep it Simple Stupid! Yup, no matter how clever you think you are. No matter how clever your audiance thinks they are! It is always best to use short, simple sentences in your copy. It’s a fact that everyone can read short, simple sentences and words faster. Make it easy for people to buy your stuff!

Email Marketing Tips

Email is still one of the most popular tools in any internet marketers toolbox. A large and responsive email list is a huge assest in a fast changing industry such as ours.

  • Sign up for a reputable email autoresponder service. A good autoreponder will be trusted by ISP’s and help get your email delivered. They also help to keep you CANSPAM compliant!
  • Offer your subscribers value. It may seem a common sense idea but too many affiliate marketers abuse their list. This means lower conversions and responses. Send them great information!

Getting More Traffic

So you’ve read my affiliate marketing tips so far and you’ve got a great, well researched website with amazing copywritng a solid autoresponder in place. Now what’s missing is traffic. We need to get eyeballs on our site!

Using Viral and Social Marketing

  • The saturation method. This is a “brute force” method for getting social traffic. You need to create accounts on all the popular services, twitter, facebook, digg, youtube and many more. Every blog post can be setup to auto-post to these services for maximum exposure.
  • The expert method. Setup a blog and get guest posts on other blogs. Create a group and fanpage on facebook and give out tons of free content. Establish yourself as an “expert” and your fans will help market for you.

Backlink Bulding

Forget all the SEO information you may know because there’s so many affiliate marketing tips  that are simply wrong.

  • The basics are quality and quantity. You need both!
  • Use Yahoo site epxlorer to examine your competition. Copy their link building strategies.
  • Use toolbars like SEO Quake to find high PR forums and blogs related to your niche.
