Two of the biggest content advertisement companies are Google’s Adsense and Adbrite. It can be challenging to effectively monetize a website, depending on the type and audience you can have very different results. Monetizing a blog or a forum can be very different from an authority website or a directory. Adsense has always been the preferred option but it’s not the only solution that can yield high returns.

Adbrite vs Adsense

Adsense is one of the original leaders in this industry and Google pioneered this method of webpage advertising. It has the largest network of websites by far and even some of the biggest companies website use it. Powered by Adwords there are many advertisers who spends $10’000′s daily on content network advertisements. A simple search of any internet marketing forums or blogs will find Adsense a popular choice.

Google are viewed as a very trustworthy company due to their huge size, they are certainly not going to flake on payments or disappear in an instant. However it can be very difficult if you accidentally break their terms and conditions or simply have any sort of problem with your account. Support is very poor and being such a huge company they can seem very unfair to the little guys.

Adsense is incredibly easy to use and reasonably customizable, with CPC (cost per click) bidding you do need to optimize your ad placements for maximum clicks. You can get ads in any of the IAB standard sizes as well as choosing between text, image or flash based ads. Some key restrictions are the types of sites you can place Adsense on, the limit of only 3 ad blocks per page as well as a $100 minimum payment threshold.

Adbrite is a much smaller company than Google but one that specializes in website advertising. It’s a trusted company that has been around for a long time and will not be going anyway anytime soon. It’s a firm favorite of many web masters.

Adbrite have many different ad sizes and formats including full page inter-site adverts, in-text adverts as well as standard IAB sizes. With slightly more relaxed rules regarding advertisers and publishers it can mean some niche websites will perform very well with Adbrite. Another advantage for new web masters is a small ($5) payment threshold that can get paid via Paypal.

Adbrite vs Adsense – Income Report

It’s very difficult to get a accurate comparison between the networks due to so many variables, what works well on one website may not work on another. The key area with both these platforms is their content analysis, they are able to “read” the webpage and try to serve the most relevant adverts. Both services are excellent at this and will rarely fail to deliver an advert your visitor will want to click on. The slightly more strict guidelines that Google use do make Adbrite the preferred option for many niche publishers.

With CPM based adverts some niches can benefit greatly by using Adbrite, every visitor contribute to your income even if they don’t click.

Our conclusion is that we slightly prefer Adbrite due to the more relaxed guidelines as well as slightly more options for the adverts. Google are a fantastic choice if you wish to use a bigger company and can put up with more oversight. The best thing to do it a month long test of each system and work on your own numbers.
